Israel · Palestine · beyond the slogans

Peace needs room for the whole truth.

Shared Future Lab makes space for what public arguments keep forcing apart: Palestinian and Jewish dignity, agency, history, and belonging—and safety and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians. That full frame also requires accountability for the choices that make peace harder.

Care becomes more honest when no one is flattened.

Israelis are not symbols of power or righteousness. Palestinians are not symbols of suffering or violence. Both are peoples with histories, fears, aspirations, disagreements, and the capacity to make consequential choices.

Shared Future Lab starts there. We examine the stories that shape what people can see, the facts those stories leave out, and the voices that refuse the easy roles assigned to them.

Our commitments

A

Dignity without denial

Palestinian suffering deserves to be faced fully. So do Jewish history, vulnerability, and the ancient connection to the land.

B

Agency without collective guilt

People are more than their leaders. That does not require pretending that leaders, movements, and public choices have no consequences.

C

Peace without fantasy

A shared future asks more than goodwill. It requires security, political courage, truthful memory, and the rejection of elimination as liberation.

Built for people who want to understand—not perform certainty.

We are creating a public learning space for readers who sense that the familiar scripts are inadequate, but do not want another arena for shouting.

01

Clear explainers

History, language, data, and contested claims made understandable without stripping away context.

02

Voices that widen the frame

Israelis, Palestinians, Jews, Muslims, Arabs, and others who pair empathy with responsibility.

03

Tools for better judgment

Ways to examine sources, recognize flattening narratives, and think beyond inherited camps.

“I want Palestinian suffering to be faced without turning Jewish belonging into the crime that explains it.”

I’m Jonathan Kaplan—an Israeli-born American Jew, a grandson of Holocaust survivors, and a psychotherapist. My work has taught me how quickly people stop listening when a truth threatens their place in a group.

I created Shared Future Lab because empathy matters, history matters, and responsibility matters. The project is transparent about where I stand and serious about listening beyond it.
